Most Active Energy Sector in Africa

Kenya’s Energy sector is among the most active in Africa. Kenya is projected to be the third fastest growing economy globally in 2015 (Bloomberg) and thus energy demand is expected to support this growth trajectory.

According to the National Energy Policy, Kenya’s vision is to become a green nation with a sustainable energy sector, where reliable, renewable, clean, and affordable energy services are provided to all its citizens.

Kenya requires a holistic approach to address challenges in the energy sector and to transition to a more sustainable energy sector. Such challenges include consumption patterns, types of fuel used, infrastructure and management and the types of energy carriers.

Why Kenya for Energy Investment

Natural Resources

Proven wind energy potential of as high as 346 W/m2 and speeds of over 6 m/s

Average annual insolation estimated at 4-6 KWh/m2/day

8th Largest Global Producer of Geothermal

14 high temperature potential sites along the rift valley with more that 10,000 MW potential

Supportive Government

The government continues to promote energy production through Public-Private-Partnerships

Feed-in-Tarrif

FIT for renewable energy projects guarantees a FIT (US$/KWhr) which eliminates pricing risk.

Opportunities for Investment In Energy

Opportunities exist in further diversification of Kenya’s Energy mix with focus on renewable energy sources.
